32 five-star hotels in Delhi sign a MoU with Govt. for Green Hotel Guidelines

Thirty-two five-star hotels in Delhi signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the department of environment, Delhi government, on Monday for compliance of Green Hotel Guidelines.

The MoU fixed various deadlines for compliance of different parameters. The Green Hotel Guidelines are an effort at optimising the use of resources.

As per the MoU, these hotels are supposed to set up a dedicated sewage treatment plant/biological effluent treatment plant for treatment of waste water; explore the possibility for re-utilisation of treated waste water to achieve the objective of zero discharge; install solar water heating system for water heating; provide decentralised facilities and equipment for conversion of organic solid waste into compost with bio-fuel (all by September 30); convert over from oil-fired boiler to natural gas boiler wherever gas is available by June 30 and develop green belt to create buffer zone from main roads by September 30. 

The MoU also expects the hotels to comply with other issues such as energy auditing, water auditing, application of renewable energy, etc.
